Timber restoration
Areas treated: Exterior timber cladding

SCOPE

• Assessment of existing timber
• Surface preparation
• Cleaning and restoration
• Protective treatment
• Careful working around existing finishes
• Final inspection

The Challenge

Years of exposure to sunlight and the British weather had left areas of the exterior timber cladding faded, grey and uneven. Different elevations had weathered at different rates, affecting the overall appearance of the property.

Rather than automatically replacing the cladding, the aim was to restore the existing timber wherever its condition allowed and recover more of its natural character.

The Process

Following an assessment of the existing timber, safe access was established and surrounding windows, glazing and other surfaces protected.

The cladding was then carefully cleaned and prepared in stages, removing the weathered surface before restoration and protective treatment. This allowed TLC to respond to the varying condition of the timber across different areas of the property.

The Solution

The restoration brought back the warmth and natural character of the timber, creating a fresher, more consistent appearance while retaining the existing cladding wherever practical.

As timber is a natural material, variations in colour and grain remain part of its character. Restoring suitable timber can also help avoid unnecessary removal, replacement and material waste.

From Weathered to Restored
